The Vivisectors "Case
History Of John Doe" self-released
Straight out of sub-artic Russia, The Vivisectors combine surf,
fuzz, and spaghetti-western with precision. Until now, I knew
of no
Russian surf bands. I was expecting to Euro-surf. To my surprise,
A Case History Of John Doe is infused with rich texture and an
innovative spirit. From to the galloping twang of "Intro",
to the springy "Big Diff", to darker songs like "Russki
Psycho", or "KGB Moscow Nights", the song gets
heavy. Heavy not with distortion... Heavy with attitude. I'm
not sure how long these dudes have been around, but if they keep
it up, Moscow may soon be known as a hotbed of surf music. Brian Parrish, Casbah radio show
